  • 1 lb Korean rice cakes - Soak in warm water if frozen
  • 1 cup Fish cakes - Sliced into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoon Gochujang - Korean chili paste – adjust to taste
  • 2 tablespoon Soy sauce - Or tamari for gluten-free
  • 1 tablespoon Brown sugar - Or honey
  • 2 cloves Garlic - Or honey
  • 2 stalks Green onions - Sliced green parts only at the end
  • 2 cups Water or broth - Chicken broth adds more depth
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil - Finish with this
  • 1 teaspoon Korean chili flakes - Optional – for more heat
Optional Add-ins:
  • 2 Hard-boiled eggs - Peeled
  • 1 cup Cabbage - Roughly chopped
  • ½ Onion - Sliced
  • 1 pack Ramen noodles - Discard seasoning packet

Method
 

  1. Soak the rice cakes (if frozen), slice fish cakes, chop garlic and green onions, and measure ingredients.

  2. Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Pour in water or broth.

  3. Stir in gochujang, soy sauce, and brown sugar. Let it bubble and adjust seasoning to taste.
